Just as we wash our dishes after use, our water utility also needs to routinely be rinsed out. This maintenance process contributes to the long-term health of our water utility and should present minimal inconvenience for our residents.
Maintenance Period
The Borough of Madison Water Department will be conducting its annual fire hydrant and water main flushing programs beginning the week of September 18. The annual flushing throughout the borough will last approximately six (6) weeks.
While hydrant flushing typically will not interrupt water service, residents may notice a temporary drop in water pressure while crews are working in the area. There is also the possibility that water may become temporarily discolored, but the department notes that this is normal as the discolored water does not pose a health hazard. If discolored water occurs, simply run the cold water for a few minutes until it clears.
Anyone who experiences further problems with their water service during the flushing period is asked to contact the Madison Water Department at (973) 966-7330.
