EV Expo to be Held on Earth Day at Sunday Motor Co. Café

Madison, NJ – March 25, 2021 – On Earth Day, Thursday, April 22, the eye-catching cars parked outside Sunday Motor Co. Café in Madison won’t be gas guzzlers. Owner Nick Vorderman is partnering with the Environmental Commissions of Madison, Chatham Borough and Chatham Township to host an EV Expo from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M.

EV Expo_001Area car dealers will showcase their latest EV models and residents will share their experiences driving hot-off-the-assembly line models that include Chevrolet Bolt, Honda Clarity, Tesla, Porsche Taycan, Karma, Volvo, BMW, VW ID.4 and Audi.

“I love cars; I love racing,” says Vorderman. “It’s clear to me that EVs are the future—no doubt about it,” continued Vorderman. He points out that as technology is improving, EV prices are going down.

Madison Mayor Robert H. Conley says that Madison is very aware that the EV future is coming. “Together with the NJ DEP ‘It Pay$ To Plug In’ grant, we’ve installed 10 EV charging stations strategically placed throughout Madison, with 10 more being installed later in 2021,” says Conley. The Chatham’s have plans to install additional charging stations.

Jessica Romeo of the Chatham Environmental Commission notes that Governor Murphy has committed to getting 330,000 electric vehicles on the road by 2025. “He’s doing an aggressive push to reduce transportation emissions by 87% by 2050,” says Romeo. Currently transportation accounts for 42% of New Jersey’s carbon emissions.

Torri Van Wie of the Chatham Borough Environmental Commission, who has two plug-in hybrids—a Porsche Cayenne Hybrid and BMW X5 eDrive, states, “I love performance in a car, and I’m an environmentalist. My hybrids let me have both.”

In addition to the eight vehicles that will be on display at the Expo, Hilltop Bicycles will be displaying an electric bike and Madison Police Department will bring their 2020 Ford Hybrid Police Inceptor. Madison Police Department currently has two hybrids in its fleet. Two additional Ford Inceptors will expand the hybrid fleet this year. Chatham Township Police Department currently has one Ford Hybrid Police Inceptor in their fleet of vehicles.

Sunday Motor Co. Cafe is located at 27 Kings Road, Madison. During the EV Expo it will serve a full menu and offer both indoor and outdoor seating, in accordance with the latest executive order.
