The Madison Recreation Track and Field program is open to all Madison residents aged 9 to 15. Younger runners (6 and up) are welcome to practice, but will not be able to compete at meets. A runner’s racing age is determined to be the age they will turn in the current calendar year. All meets are run in participation with the Lakeland League of Morris County.
Practices are held, weather permitting, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6pm to 7pm at the Madison High School track from mid-March through May. Meets are typically held on Sundays from 12pm to 4pm at either the MHS track or the track of the host team in April and May. Runners may compete in a maximum of two individual events (100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m), one team event (4x100m relay), and/or one field event (shot put or long jump) at the discretion off the coaches. Both practices and meets are optional (some kids practice but don’t race and vice versa).
The program is run entirely by volunteers. All participating families are expected to help with running practices and meets to the extent that they are able. The quality of the experience is greatly improved when we have enough help. If you have any questions, you may contact head coach Tyler Merson directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
