PLANS ARE UNDERWAY FOR THE SUMMER READING
PROGRAM:
"CATCH THE READING BUG!"
There will be prizes, raffles, programs, and
activities, all revolving around the topic "BUGS", which is the focus of this
summer's reading theme.
(In addition to bugs which are insects,
there are VW bugs, "Bugs" Bunny, computer bugs, illness bugs, and even the
"don't bug me" phrase, as well as the "reading bug"!)
Registration for this exciting Summer Reading
Club will take place on
SATURDAY, JUNE 14, from 10 am - 1 pm.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR!
We'll celebrate with a special FAMILY FUN DAY!
(to be held rain or shine - outdoors and in
the Chase Room)
The entire family is invited to register
during this OPENING DAY. We'll have special programs, arts and crafts,
balloon animals and much more! Full details of all the summer activities
will be in our next newsletter.
WILL YOU HELP US?
We will need "bug" and insect items to
decorate our children's room this summer. If you have such items, please
let us know if you would lend or donate them to the children's room for use in
June, July, and August
(973-377-0733 ext. 217).
We won't need them until the end of May, but
we'd appreciate knowing about your items now, so we can plan.

WHAT’S NEW IN THE CHILDREN'S ROOM
The Children’s
Room has a new look in the pre-school area!
We’ve added
new shelving to hold our expanding collection of Easy Readers. In addition we
have a new rod system to hold all our Read-a-longs for easier viewing. By having
these in place, we were able to move our Board Books to different shelving for
convenient usage. You will also find our alphabet, counting, Mother Goose
rhymes, Disney, and Sesame Street books in a different location outside the
Picture Book Room. There is a special spot for Star Wars and Superheroes books
now located together on the back of the Fire Dept. shelves. The fairy tales and
folktales (398 & 398.2) section is still located by the non-fiction, but
will be on its
own special new shelves near the doll house.
Although it
will take some time to get used to all the new locations, we believe it will be
much easier to see and use this part of our collection. Everyone on the
children’s staff helped, but we want to especially thank Andrea Sullivan and
Melanie Edwards for all their hard work with this project, as well as our
custodian Tom Knudsen.

Something else new is coming in 2008 -- the children’s audio-visual section
will soon be adding a completely new type of media, similar to audio books – “Playaways”!
Look for them in the next few months.
