WHEREAS, the Borough of Madison publicly advertised for bids for the 2000 Road Program in order to pave Elm Street, Elmer Street, Hamilton Street, Parkside Avenue, Sherwood Avenue and West Street, including drainage and sidewalk repairs, as well as to provide water improvements for portions of West Street and Elm Street; and

WHEREAS, the lowest bid was submitted by Smith-Sondy Asphalt Construction in the amount of $620,326.33; and

WHEREAS, the Borough Engineer has recommended that the Borough Council award the contract to Smith-Sondy Asphalt Construction in the amount of $620,326.33; and

WHEREAS, the Director of Finance has attested that funds will be available in an amount not to exceed $620,326.33 for this purpose from the General Capital Improvement Fund.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Borough of Madison, in the County of Morris and State of New Jersey, as follows:

1. The contract for the 2000 Road Program to pave Elm Street, Elmer Street, Hamilton Street, Parkside Avenue, Sherwood Avenue and West Street, including drainage and sidewalk repairs, as well as to provide water improvements for portions of West Street and Elm Street is hereby awarded to Smith-Sondy Asphalt Construction based upon its bid in the amount of $620,326.33.

2. The Mayor and Borough Clerk are hereby authorized and directed on behalf of the Borough to enter into the contract with Smith-Sondy Asphalt Construction in a form acceptable to the Borough Attorney.
