The Public Works Department is headed by the
Superintendent of Public Works, has 24 total employees including the
Superintendent, and is divided into five areas: Office Staff,
Mechanical Service, Roads, Parks, and Sewer Departments.
- The Office Staff consists of one secretary and one office
assistant who answer all telephone
calls, order material and process all bills. They coordinate the following calls:
recycling, Shade Tree requests, garbage complaints, road and sidewalk repairs, snow
plowing and ice control. All Special projects and activities are monitored by the office
staff. Back-up telephone coverage for the Water and Light department is handled by this
office when the Utility secretary is absent.
- The Mechanical Service Department consists of one foreman and two
mechanics who perform preventive maintenance on all equipment and repair 110 pieces of over the road
equipment. They also maintain and repair 40 small pieces of equipment: lawn mowers, saws,
weed eaters, pumps and generators.
- A General Foreman supervises Roads
and Parks; Roads consists of six employees including the
General Foreman and Parks consists of eight
employees; Roads employees maintain 55 miles of
roads by patching and resurfacing. The Department also handles the following items:
1) repair and installation of signs; 2) painting of center lines and crosswalks; 3)
repairing of sidewalks; 4) planting of trees; 5)snow plowing and sanding; and 6) repairing
of Borough buildings. The Parks Department has eight
full-time employees. They maintain the following: 1) all
athletic fields; 2) playgrounds; 3) parks; 4) shrubs in the parks; 5) flower beds; 6) leaf
collection (fall); 7) snow plowing, cleaning sidewalks and skating pond. They work with
all committees and organizations.
- The Sewer
Department consists of one Foreman and three full-time
employees; they maintain 50 miles of
sewer lines. They clean and repair 950 catch basins and maintain six pumping stations.
