National Night Out August 1, 2006
On a hot and steamy August evening,
the Madison Police Department teamed up with the community of Madison in
a partnership to deter crime. Chief Vincent Chirico along with the
Madison Police Emergency Services Unit, Motor Unit, Bike Patrol Unit,
Traffic Unit, Community Policing Unit, DARE Unit, Detective Bureau and
Patrol Division participated in the event. Lt. Jerry Mantone of
the Community Policing Division organized the event. Other law
enforcement agencies that also participated included: The New
Jersey State Police K-9 Unit, the Morris County Pipes and Drums
Bagpipers (Patrolman Christopher Keller also provided bagpipes for the
event), NJ Transit K-9 and Emergency Services Unit, Livingston PD Chief
Michael Erb along with their Motor Unit.
Teams of officers visited various
neighborhoods who registered for the event. The residents were
treated to demonstrations such as K-9 bomb dogs, ESU equipment and mock
drills, motorcycle, command center bus (NJ Transit). All officers
interacted with the residents and gave away t-shirts, hats, and toys for
the children. Overall the turnout was tremendous and the police
department is looking forward to next year's National Night Out.
