The Captain of the Madison Police
Department is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the entire
police department. The Captain interacts with the Division
Commanders on a daily basis to facilitate the most efficient and
effective means of delivering the best service possible to the various
community stakeholders within the Borough of Madison. The Captain
is also the commander of the Field Training Unit. This cadre of
training officers are responsible for instructing and evaluating
probationary patrol officers. The Captain also acts as liaison to
various inter-county law enforcement units such as the counter-terrorism
unit of the Morris County Prosecutors Office, school security initiative
coordinator to the New Jersey Domestic Security Task Force, and the gang
unit of the Morris County Prosecutors Office.
The Captain also serves as the
internal affairs officer for the Police Department. This function requires
him to receive and investigate all complaints made against officers of
the Madison Police Department. He also is the Public Information
Officer for the Police Department.
In addition to the above listed
functions the Captain also oversees the Department's Policy and
Procedures, is the Public Information Officer for the Emergency
Management Council and manages payroll for the Department.
Presently the Captain is overseeing
the design and building of the new Fire and Police Facility that is
scheduled to begin construction in the Fall of 2005
