Rodent Infestation
The
Madison Health Department needs your help! We are about to enter that time of year when rodent sightings
are most likely to occur. Please
take the following steps to keep rats and other vermin away from your
property:
- Inspect
your property for signs of rodent infestation.
Rats generally nest outdoors in burrows dug under sheds,
walkways, piles of building rubble, landscaping, decaying firewood and
improperly constructed compost heaps.
The burrows are generally three to six inches in diameter and
are surrounded by freshly dug earth.
- Remove
potential rodent harborage from your property.
Properly discard debris and unused firewood.
Repair damaged building foundations.
Eliminate access holes to sheds and other buildings.
Trim landscape plantings and remove yard waste.
Research proper composting.
- Eliminate
potential food and water sources.
Store household garbage in receptacles with tight fitting lids.
Do not leave pet food unattended.
Remove birdseed that has fallen to the ground.
Dispose of pet droppings.
Collect and discard fallen fruit and berries.
- Notify
the Madison Health Department at 973-593-3079 ext 1 if you see
signs of rodent infestation on your property or in your neighborhood.
Upon your request, a member of the Madison Health
Department will survey your property for active rodent infestation or
potential rodent harborage. Just
give us a call!
Lets work together to eliminate rodent harborage and
keep rodent infestation out of Madison!
