In
recent years the
Madison Fire Department initiated two vitally important programs that may
have a direct effect on the outcome of a fire or personal illness/accident
within your home.
The Madison Fire
Department, with the assistance of public donations, County grant
funds, and the Madison F.M.B.A., has developed a Smoke Detector Distribution and Installation
service for those residents in need of assistance (senior citizens,
handicapped, others requiring special assistance or any person who has a
special health condition).
Upon request, we will install smoke detectors on each level of your
home. The department will also install Carbon Monoxide detectors on
any level where there is a sleeping area.
There are NO
costs associated with this service! Any
residents requiring assistance with the installation of detectors
or battery maintenance are also strongly encouraged to contact us for
assistance.
Our "Vial of
Life" program was also initiated with the Smoke Detector program. This program provides an opportunity for all residents to
have vital health history information available to emergency personnel at
your home should the need arise. This
is especially important for anyone on prescription medication or have any
kind of special health condition. Residents
can fill out the form provided, roll it up, place it in the vial, and
place the vial in the top shelf inside the refrigerator door. An identifying magnet is then placed on the outside of the
refrigerator door, and a "Vial of Life" sticker placed on the front door to
alert emergency personnel that the resident is a participant in the
program. Upon request we will
provide the "Vial of Life" components to any resident and will
also assist in filling out the health form for those who may require
assistance. There are NO costs associated with this service!
All residents are encouraged to participate.
Please contact the Fire
Department's non-emergency number (973-593-3021) and an on-duty firefighter
can assist you with both of these life saving programs. For these programs to have a positive impact we need YOUR
assistance. Call Us - We
