The MADISON ENVIRONMENTAL COMMISSION (MEC) and MADISON BOY SCOUTS TROOP 25 have partnered together to organize the FIFTH ANNNUAL MADISON GREEN FAIR. To link with Earth Day, the Fair is on Thursday APRIL 24, 20143, from 3:30 – 6:30pm. The Green Fair is designed as an opportunity to explore how we can sustainably impact the world around us, and will include lots of Educational Exhibits, Vendors, Music, Presenters, Refreshments, and Fun, Games and Prizes.
MEC’s mission includes studying and making recommendations in areas of conservation and environmental protection, planning local conservation programs, informing the public about those programs, and contributing to natural resource protection and improvement in our community. The MEC represents Madison’s commitment to improving our environment, and is another example of why Madison is now a Sustainable New Jersey Silver-Certified Community. Madison was named Sustainable Jersey’s Sustainability Champion for Mid-sized Communities in 2013.
The Madison Boy Scouts Troop 25 believes that there is no greater experience for a boy than the adventure that Scouting has to offers. To really see Scouting in action, look closely at our activities and trips, where the boys get the opportunity to live, play, work, have fun and learn with each other. Life-long friendships are built here, as well as valuable skills which that will serve them forever. In 2013 alone, BSA Troop 25 members have conducted more than five Eagle projects that resulted in a direct and positive impact on the environment. To learn more, visit http://www.bsatroop25nj.org.
The theme for Green Fair 2014 is “Spring Cleaning". MEC and Boy Scout Troop 25 will be working to attract exhibitors and presenters that represent environmentally-friendly products for indoor and outdoor use, in the areas of energy efficiency, transportation, waste and recycling, water conservation and food. Rain barrels and composters will be available for sale, and we’ll collect unusual recycling materials. Demonstrations on Hhow to make safe cleaning products and repurpose cleaning materials will be part of thedemonstrated offering. At the fair, we will be offering tickets for free tours of Madison’s Passive Solar House and show energy-efficient cars and lawnmowers. There will be local musical talent and delicious refreshments to round out the afternoon. The event will strive for zero waste!
