On May 5, 2012, The Downtown Development Commission (DDC) sponsored the 14th annual “May Day in Madison,” a town wide beautification day where volunteers help clean, mulch and improve Madison’s parks, business districts and other public places. This event fosters pride, volunteerism and community spirit and promotes the need for shared responsibility in beautifying and maintaining our town.

2011 May Day Receives ‘Shot in the Arm’ from local Doctors

May Day 2011 received a $2,500 donation from Madison Medical and Sports Rehabilitation. “Dr. Wayne Lejewski is a DDC Commissioner and when he heard about the need, he and his partner, Dr Carmen Romano quickly offered to help. We really appreciate this donation” said May Day Chair Mara Johnson. Money donated to May Day helps fund over 110 of the Garden Club’s Hanging Flower baskets as well as the t-shirts worn by the 800+ volunteers.
The check was given at the Downtown Development Commission meeting this past Thursday March 19th. Pictured above are (from L to R) DDC Chair Brad Cramer, Mayor Mary-Anna Holden, May Day Chair Mara Johnson, Dr Wayne Lejewski, Dr Carmen Romano and Council Member Astri Baillie.

We’re proud to be celebrating our fourteenth consecutive year! Although volunteers help us with town wide improvement projects, individuals, businesses and organizations are needed to pledge their support as well. Would you be willing to volunteer or donate? The event is completely funded by private donations.
Any individual, group, or business pledging $250 or more will be recognized as an official event sponsor and will have their name printed on the back of over 800 T-shirts which will be distributed to all pre-registered volunteers. The deadline for T Shirt sponsors is March 30th.
May Day is responsible for funding 207 of the hanging flower baskets on the lamp posts in town. This year, anyone donating over $100 will be recognized as a “Flower Basket Donor” and will receive an official certificate of appreciation.
You are welcome to be part of our team and your help, both as a volunteer on May 5, 2012 and as a financial sponsor of this event, is appreciated.
