Medy Bozkurtian is an artist who lives in East Hanover
and works in Madison.
Medy's daughter and her family live in Madison.
Born and
raised in Bulgaria, Medy began her studies of classical piano
and drawing at an early age. She and her family came to the U.S.
in 1963. At that time she studied piano at the Juilliard
School of Music and oil painting at the Art Students’ League,
both in New York City.
She taught
piano for many years and painted portraits, landscapes and still
life in oils in her New York studio. She came to East Hanover in
1998.
Use of the watercolor medium is a relatively recent
development for this artist. Medy's subjects reflect her
interests in world travel, music, people and nature.
Her two children and five grandchildren are frequent subjects of
her paintings.
She is an exhibiting member of the Essex
Watercolor Club, the New Jersey Center for Visual Arts and the
Morris County Art Association. She has won many awards, and her
work is in private collections both in the U.S. and Europe.
Last year Medy was awarded First Place
by the Madison Downtown Development Corporation at Art on
Waverly for her painting "Old Madison Library" which the
Madison Eagle used as cover for their May 26, 2005 Madison
Streetscape section. At this year's Art on Waverley, she was
awarded second place for overall watercolor by the Madison
Chamber of Commerce.
Medy recently had a solo exhibit at the
Madison Library's Chase Room.
Her work may be seen in future exhibits at the Children's
Specialized Hospital in Mountainside in October/November 2005,
at Morristown Memorial Hospital and the Morris County Library in
2006, and at the Madison and Chatham Libraries in 2007.
