Cub Scout Camporee 2003
Hi all,
Here's the current information for the Cub Scout Family Camporee. All family members are welcome.
Activities: BB Guns, archery, cubmobile, monkeybridge, climbing wall, fishing, skits and songs at the campfire, games, nature trail, outdoor cooking, etc.
When: Saturday May 3 to Sunday May 4. Arrival is between 8 and 9 am. Unlike previous years, there is no staggered arrival time since Watchung Reservation has a parking lot. This also means that there is not staggered departure time. As soon as we have our campsite cleaned and inspected, we can leave.
Where: Watchung Reservation.
Address: 452 New Providence Rd., Mountainside, NJ, 07092
The best way to get a map is to go to yahoo maps (http://maps.yahoo.com/) and type in the address above. We will organize a common departure location for our pack, so that we can find it all together (or get lost together).
Cost: Here is the good part. I volunteered the pack to run an activity: the campfire!

This should be fun and won’t require coordinating parents all day at a station. We will need to bring wood, however. Also, it reduces our costs to $10 per head! For those that have paid $14, I will be issuing refunds as soon as I get more attending the camporee.
Registered cubs: $10
Adults $10
Siblings over 6: $10
Siblings under 6: $5
Siblings under 2: free
Facilities: Note that there will be portajohns and 2 flush toilets for the weak of heart. There are no platforms to sleep on, but the camp ground is a field, so it should be pretty comfortable.
Note also that Watchung is a public campground, so we will likely see people from the public at the camp. Let’s make sure we keep tabs on our kids at all times.
Logistics: Arrive at Watchung between 8am and 9am. Opening ceremony is at 11am. Activities are from 11am to 5pm, followed by dinner and a council fire.
Activities will be scheduled “free form”, that is, there is no set time at each activity. We will be given a ticket for each activity. We will then go to each activity on our own schedule. People with tickets have priority. If we want to do an activity more than once (oh, I don’t know, maybe BB Guns!) then we can do that as long as others with tickets are not waiting at the station.
This free form schedule will make for a lot of free time, so bring your baseballs, frisbees, whatever to pass the time.
There may be some fire restrictions, which we will find out at the camp. There will be a big Council fire in the evening (which we are responsible for) with skits and songs.
We will need a SKIT or song for the Council fire. Bring your ideas.
The parking lot is not that far from the campsite. This will facilitate leaving food in the cars at night. You may still want to bring a wagon to haul your stuff back and forth. CARPOOL if you can.
Lunch on Saturday is brown bagged (i.e., people bring their own). There will not be a place to purchase lunch on Saturday, so make sure that you have food. Dinner Saturday and breakfast Sunday are included.
