MADISON BRANCH OF THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN WILL CO SPONSOR SPRING WORKSHOPS ON ASSERTIVENESS TRAINING FOR GIRLS

The Madison Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) co-sponsored two Fall Assertiveness training workshops for girls that were a great success!  The workshop “How to Say What You Mean Without Being Mean (And Still Keep Your Friends)” was co-sponsored with the Connection for Women and Families / The Girl Project – based in Summit.   It was led by Lisamarie Slattery, who works as the Program Director and a facilitator of Girl Project.

Due to the overwhelming response to this program the Madison Branch of AAUW will co-sponsor this workshop two more times this spring.  The dates are April 3, 2008 and May 5, 2008.  The workshops will be held from 4:15- 5:45PM at the Madison Public Library/Chase Room.  The upcoming sessions are designed to help girls in 5th and 6th grades, learn to express themselves honestly, directly and appropriately; identify common challenging situations and discuss new ideas for creating healthy, social relationships, so they can grow into smart, confident women who are in charge of their own lives!!

Once again, the workshops are being led by Lisamarie Slattery. Lisamarie received her Masters Degree in Counseling, Human Services, and Guidance from Montclair State University.  She is a Licensed Professional Counselor.

To keep the cost reasonable for girls to attend, a portion of the workshop costs will either be funded by a grant from the AAUW New Jersey Charitable Trust Fund or the Madison Branch of AAUW.  The cost will be $10.00 per girl and advance registration and payment is required.  Seating for the assertiveness workshop is limited and the fall workshops sold out quickly.   Checks should be made out to The Connection for Women and Families and mailed to the attention of Lisamarie Slattery at The Connection for Women and Families, 79 Maple Street, Summit, NJ 07901.   With any mailed reservation please include the name of the girl, her age and contact information.  Individuals with questions may call Lisamarie at 908-273-4242 X156.
