Football Scrimmages to Benefit Family of Late MPD Captain
Junior Football Scrimmages to Benefit Family of Late Madison Police Captain, Joe Cirella
When the Madison Jr. Football (MJF) Dodgers prepare for a game, it is all about winning as a team. Scrimmages are the exact same mindset, just a different uniform.
On September 1, they will be traveling to Freedom Park in Randolph for scrimmages with winning in mind. The Dodger football program is looking to compound these wins by supporting one Randolph family with Madison roots.
It was on September 1 last year that the Cirellas got the devastating diagnosis that changed their lives forever. A week before Christmas, Madison Police Capt. Joseph P. Cirella, died after a three-month bout with cancer.
He leaves behind his wife, Amy, who grew up in Madison and is the daughter of the late MPD officer, Jerry Sarles. Cirella is also survived by his daughter (Caroline) and two sons, (Joey and Nicholas) who play in the Randolph Junior Football Program.
On that night at Freedom Field, two uniformed Madison Police Department officers will be in attendance to show respect and support. MJF President, Tom Leck, will be presenting the Cirella family with a $300 donation and all proceeds from the Food Hut will go directly to the family. The Madison Police Department continues to raise funds for Capt. Cirella’s family thru donations collected from the community. If you wish to make such a donation, checks can be made out to Madison PBA 92 with "Cirella Fund" in the memo field.
As members of the Morris County Youth Football League, we have the opportunity to do great things for our program and for others in our football family who need us. Through our generosity, we can help while teaching our young athletes the concept of lending a hand in order to make a difference in the lives of people who really are not that different from us. We all win!
Scrimmages start at 6:15 p.m. Please join us on Thursday, September 1, 2016 for football, family, fun and philanthropy at Freedom Park 640 Millbrook Avenue, Randolph.
